In November 2022, Hélène Campbell was told she had nine to 12 months left to live. Better get to that bucket list, she thought. She splurged on a Mediterranean trip followed by an Alaskan cruise with her family members. She bought gifts. She treated her friends to meals. All this significantly dented her bank account.
